Sesame Seeds

DESCRIPTION

Sesame is an oleaginous plant. This means that the seeds are rich in lipids and essential fatty acids. As with poppy seeds and flax seeds, they shouldn’t be underestimated because of their size. They are rich in vitamins, iron, antioxidants and proteins. They lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, some cancers and type 2 diabetes. Lignins and phytoestrogens are known to reduce estrogen levels in post-menopausal women. These properties minimize the risk of developing breast cancer. Sesame seeds are also rich in fibre. They also promote proper bowel function.

Sesame seeds are versatile in the kitchen: they can be added to salads, sprinkled on desserts and also used to garnish fish and meat dishes.
