The cranberry is one of the only fruits that is native to the North American continent. Along with the blueberry, the ground cherry and the goji berry, the cranberry is considered a “super-fruit.” When the cranberry has reached maturity its flavour is rather bitter. However, once dried, it becomes sweet and mild.
It is rich in antioxidants and in vitamin C.
Consumption of the cranberry can prevent cardiovascular disease. It also has beneficial effects on the stomach, the bladder and even the teeth.
The cranberry is commonly found in drinks but we also see it used in desserts, chutneys, stuffing and even some Indian dishes.
